Last night was a great evening of celebrations and inevitably was a late night, so we were all relieved to get a lay in this morning. I got up around 9am and headed for breakfast. I then met up with Gina, Jenny & Preya and we walked in search of a coffee before grabbing a Tuk-Tuk to start our shopping spree in the market street.
When shopping in Cambodia, you need to be prepared to barter. Apparently the best starting point in 50% less than the first price they give you and be prepared to walk away to get the price you want. I didn’t enjoy bartering and didn’t do a very good job of it, but I still feel that I got value for money.
Having grabbed our bargains we headed back to the hotel for the noon check out. Although we had to check out by 12pm, we were still able to use all the hotel facilities. Luckily for me, my roomie, Jane, had extended our room, so I headed for the pool for a dip to cool off.
Having sat around the pool chatting, a few of us headed off to Burger King for lunch, then it was back to the pool for an hour before it was time to get ready to leave for the airport.
The first leg of the journey home was a 2 hour flight from Siem Reap to Hanoi in Vietnam. We then had a 4 hour layover before our 12 ½ hour flight home. I didn’t get much sleep on the plane but did manage to watch 2 movies and finish my book.
It was emotional saying goodbye to everyone in baggage reclaim. We have spent so much time together over the 10 days, that it seems strange that I will not see them later at dinner, or in the bar. We all agreed it was a trip of a lifetime and are already talking about meeting up for a reunion.
Walking out of arrivals and seeing Tim waiting for me with a lovely bunch of flowers was so lovely. I really missed him while I was away and I know he would have loved this trip just as much as I have, so I hope one day we can do a similar trip together.
Can’t wait to travel with you again.
